JHS BAND CHAPERONES
|
I
have had the pleasure of traveling with the JHS Band for the last two
years, and I have not had one moment of regret! I have watched these
kids grow and mature along with the band program and have been amazed and
all they have accomplished. To be a chaperone for the JHS Band, you
simply have to have a student in JISD band, or be a school faculty member.
It doesn't cost you anything but your time, and trust me, it will be time
well spent and memories shared with your son or daughter and never
forgotten! Charla Putnam

Here is a breakdown of a typical away game schedule:
-
Check and make sure the band students have
all their equipment and uniform on the trailer! This doesn't mean
you are responsible for getting the equipment/uniforms on the trailer,
just to direct the students where they need to go/or need to do.
-
Make sure the JHS Band Banner, Bleacher
Covers and Ice Water Cooler/Cups/Trash bag are on the trailer.
-
Climb aboard the bus and enjoy the ride to
the game! The band president will take a roll call to make sure all
students are accounted for.
-
Upon arrival, the Chaperones need to get
the bleacher covers out of the trailer and check with Mr. Wynn about
where the band will be sitting. We then go set up the bleacher
covers before the band enters the stadium. (The band students are
getting their instruments and checking their uniforms themselves.)
-
If the JHS Band Banner is brought to the
game, we need to tie it to the stands in front of the band.
-
Once the bleacher covers are completed, we
then get the cooler of ice water and take it to the stands for the band.
-
Check with the band and see if anyone
wants any ice water. If so, we distribute to them.
-
Sit back and enjoy the 1st half of the
game and our awesome band!
-
Half-time: assist the Drum Line with any
equipment they may need help with to get ready for the show. The
Band Boosters purchased a cart to help with this. It may be that
there will be nothing you need to help the Drum Line with, if that's the
case, then just go enjoy the half-time show!
-
The band typically has 3rd quarter off,
and there is nothing to do during that time.
-
Once the game is over and the band leaves
the stand, the bleacher covers need to be taken up, folded and put back
in the carry back and placed on the trailer. Pick up any trash the
band students may have left behind.
-
Take down the JHS Band Banner and put on
the trailer.
-
Return the cooler to the bus or trailer.
-
Help the band students get their equipment
and uniforms back in order on the trailer.
-
Board the bus and check with the band
president to ensure all students are back aboard.
We usually eat after the game with the football boys before heading back
home. Ideally, it would be nice to have two additional chaperones,
but this can be done with just one without much trouble. Sometimes
it's hot and sweaty work, but again, I wouldn't trade the experience!

So, what do you say... are you ready to sign up?
If you are, then give me a call and I'll let you know the games/trips I
still need help with. My cell# 830-459-7103 or you can email me at
band@junctionband.net. I hope to see you on the Big
Yellow Dog! Charla Putnam -
